कोलंबिया में आए 7.4 तीव्रता के शक्तिशाली भूकंप ने भारी तबाही मचा दी है। ताजा रिपोर्टों के अनुसार, इस विनाशकारी आपदा में 169 लोगों की मौत और 570 से अधिक लोगों के घायल होने की खबर है। 1,600 से ज्यादा इमारतें क्षतिग्रस्त या ध्वस्त हुई हैं, जबकि 1,575 से अधिक घर, 18 स्वास्थ्य केंद्र और 52 स्कूल भी प्रभावित हुए हैं। भूकंप के बाद 21 से ज्यादा आफ्टरशॉक्स ने लोगों की चिंता और बढ़ा दी है। प्रभावित इलाकों में राहत और बचाव अभियान जारी है तथा मलबे में फंसे लोगों की तलाश की जा रही है। चोको समेत कई क्षेत्रों में पहुंच की चुनौती के कारण राहत कार्य मुश्किल बना हुआ है। पेरेइरा, काली और मनिज़ालेस जैसे शहरों में भी भारी नुकसान की खबरें सामने आई हैं। प्रशासन ने आपातकालीन कदम तेज कर दिए हैं। इस भयावह त्रासदी ने एक बार फिर भूकंपरोधी निर्माण और आपदा तैयारियों पर गंभीर सवाल खड़े कर दिए हैं।
